A Simple Photo Scavenger Hunt Activity.

Probably the hardest part of this lesson plan is deciding which scavenger hunt to do first! Once that’s accomplished, use this simple photo scavenger hunt lesson plan for adding a fun photo scavenger hunt to your summer holiday.

  • Pick a scavenger hunt checklist.
  • Discuss where the best place or destination for the topic might be.
  • Make a plan to go there.

Sometime before you arrive, (at breakfast, in the car, at the beginning of your hunt), read through the list and get everyone thinking about what they might want to keep an eye out for in their pictures.

Try to spend enough time exploring for each person to complete their list.

Once you are finished, have a snack and talk about the pictures. Let the kids talk about why they chose that subject for their picture, and why it was interesting to them.

  • Does the photo remind them of anything else (a story, a funny memory, something they learned)?
  • What they might do differently next time to take better pictures.

Encourage them to add the image and quote to a journal or create another work of art based on the image or quote.

Save the images so you can create a fun project like a calendar, storybook, or greeting cards with the images (grandparents, aunts & uncles will love these!). You’ll find paged at the end to mount your pictures on or use as a digital background. Have fun & Stay Captivated!

Go Ahead, Make A Day Of It!

Alternatively, it is fun to take a couple of hours or even a whole day to complete a scavenger hunt. This printable is easily downloaded onto a phone and can be used as a checklist while out and about taking pictures.

Give each person or team a different page to complete. Or complete the entire list. This is a fun, easy lesson for a co-op or learning community to do as well.  You might even decide you want to expand the photo scavenger hunt.

Finally, if you are not able to get out and about where you live, many of these scavenger huts make fun lists of things to look for during virtual field trips to museums, zoos aquariums & art galleries.

Consider incorporating Photography into your homeschool electives.

It’s a great opportunity to learn how to build a high school elective using online digital resources to inspire thoughtful creativity into a unit study or full-semester course. If this sounds fun to your kids, you’ll enjoy Photography for Teens.
