Do you have a homeschool road map?

I was so inspired by a recent homeschool conference workshop that I sat my kids down and we chatted about what they are passionate about. I asked them 3 questions:

What do you want to DO? Who do you want to BE? What do you want to HAVE?

Locked inside those questions were these super important questions of the heart:

What are your passions?
What are your convictions (those things that make you sad that you would like to help change)?
What are your talents?

Finally, I asked them, “How can I help you achieve these goals?”

Dream Big. Plan Well.

There may or may not have been a fair amount of “buy me this” and “don’t make me do that”, jokingly mixed into the discussion. Then, we moved on to talking about what skills would need to be learned to help accomplish these big dreams. We looked at different maps, including road maps, country maps and even topographic maps showing elevations (the kind used for hiking). We dreamed about where to go in the world to help others and how to make a difference right in our own neighborhood.

Then, I decided to let the kids help make the curriculum shopping list. It’s part of the Ultimate Homeschool Curriculum Planning Video Series. They wanted to choose the curricula that interested and inspired them. I wanted them to find the tools that help unlock their passions, convictions, and talents.

We had such a great time talking about it all. It was the best homeschool planning session I think I’ve ever had with the kids!
