Castle Gandolfo Virtual Tour

Mama Mia! A virtual tour of Italy! Jump in here and feel free to check out all the other locations too. Our first stop, Grottaferrata was pretty cool and Castel Gandolfo will not disappoint.

Since we had our rental car, we also had the chance to head up the road to Castel Gandolfo. It’s just a few miles from Grottaferrata. Castel Gandolfo is another beautiful town with a rich history. This is the Pope’s summer residence, but Pope Francis has recently opened it to the public. Wasn’t that nice? Word has it he likes to stay in Rome, so he decided to share this gorgeous property with the rest of us.

Visit Castel Gandolfo – the Pope’s summer palace

This video (made before Pope Francis was elected), gives a great overview of the history of Castel Gandolfo. And, here is a more recent video showing the areas that have been recently opened to the public. Don’t miss out on the gardens. They are a perfect place to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day.

Once you’ve visited Castel Gandolfo, you might have fun doing a kayak tour on the nearby Lake Albano. Enjoy!

I promise, we will get to Rome, but there is so much to see outside the busy city, I just had to share it with you in this virtual tour of Castel Gandolfo.

This region is great for families that enjoy using Airbnb as there are a number of less expensive (because you are further away from the center of Rome) flats and rooms to rent. It’s a great place to relax away from the hustle and heat of the city.

Mama Mia! The next stop on our “no passport required” tour is Rome.   Start learning about Ancient Rome today.  There’s nothing better than learning on location as a family.

There is so much of Italy to see beyond Rome, so don’t miss out on these quaint villages that hold so much history and intrigue.

Ciao for now!
