The 1 Thing To Do in Basel with Kids.
Many folks make Basel their destination because it is so central to France, Germany & Switzerland – and the budget airlines can have jaw-dropping deals regularly. So, pack your bag, we’re headed to Basel with kids!
There are loads of things to do in Basel with kids that the whole family will enjoy. I couldn’t believe how many museums you can get into for free in Basel with your Swiss Rail Pass purchase. But what will your kids enjoy the most? I’m guessing it might be the Basler Papiermühle.
What’s not to love!?!
It’s hands on, a bit messy (but not too messy). It has fantastic exhibits, engaging historical information and knowledgeable folks able to answer your questions.
According to the Swiss Paper Museum, “visitors learn everything from how to make handmade paper to the finished book. Spread over four floors, the museum offers a fascinating atmosphere with a mix of exhibition and production workshops…Children and adults are invited to try their hand as a craftsman and thus experience a visit for all the senses.”
Head to the top.
Make sure you go all the way to the top floor. You’ll get to try your artistic hand at making marbled paper.
This video shows how a book shop in Bedfordshire, UK used to do it. The Basel Paper Museum uses a similar process. The results were the highlight of the day for us and the favorite souvenir of our Basel with kids adventure.
Don’t forget to check out all the other museums you can get into for free with your Swiss Rail Pass in Basel. There are quite a few to choose from. But the Paper Museum is the one place we loved the most in Basel.
